Naturpark Diemtigtal

Regional nature park since 2012

Wild landscapes, adventurous discoveries: Diemtigtal Nature Park offers unique nature experiences right on the doorstep. The terms simplicity and authenticity are redefined: An honest way of life and profound experiences are in the foreground - also for our guests. Where does your next trip to the Diemtigtal lead to?

Our valley, your park

The perimeter of the Diemtigtal Nature Park comprises the municipalities of Diemtigen and Zweisimmen (with the Seeberg lake). Its natural gate at the entrance of the valley, together with the distinctive end of the valley and the characteristic pre-alpine landscape make Diemtigtal the epitome of what the visitor would expect from a nature park.

Alpine and mountain agriculture

Diemtigtal is the most important alpine farming muncipilaty in Switzerland. Around 140 alpine farms put about 10'000 cows, oxen, sheep and goats out onto the summer pastures. Alpine farming is a lively and traditional cultural and economic way of life which is, in Diemtigtal, held in high esteem. Many years of extensive and sustainable agriculture have resulted in a wide biodiversity and a broad and continuous cultural landscape.

Tradition and living culture

With its traditional villages made of scattered houses, the Diemtigtal offers an abundance of carefully maintained and lively architecture. In recognition of this, the Swiss Cultural Heritage Protection awarded the municipality of Diemtigtal the Henri-Louis-Wakker prize in 1986. Even today, traditions are actively maintained and experienced.

With its cultural treasures and the partly wild nature, the Diemtigtal is ideal for spirited excursions and offers space to relax: hiking trails lead along waterways to the secluded Alps, theme trails reveal some of nature's secrets, the «Grimmimutz» invites families to play, and naturalists in the making discover the value of water at the water playground «Gwunderwasser». Welcome to the home of the Schwinger king, the wrestler Wenger Kilian!

«Nah, wild, wertvoll.»
